What Are Those Popular Hair Clips Called?

You may have noticed that cool hair clips are everywhere, whether you've been obsessively scrolling through Instagram or you've put down your phone to live in the present. Megan Thee Stallion, Alicia Keys, and K-pop star HyunA have all worn the trendy hair accessory. It reminds us of the '90s, when you couldn't have a good hairstyle without a butterfly clip.

Even though hair clips that are popular now are often just as glittery and colorful as they were decades ago, or even more so, they have changed. They have pearls on them and are made of resin. Some of them, especially the ones with rhinestones, really make a statement. At this point, hair clips are so popular that it can be hard to know where to start if you want to join the trend. But you have us because of that.

Not sure how to put yours together? Justin Marjan, a hairstylist, says to look at your face as a guide. "For example, if you want to put something higher on your face, line it up with your eyes or eyebrows," she tells Allure. "If you want to put it behind your ear, line it up with your cheekbones."

Here are some of our favorite hair clips that we've found on the internet that we think you'll love.Hair clips have been around as long as people have had hair. Even the people who lived in caves left signs that they made hairpins out of thorns, sticks, bones, and stone. During the time of the Romans, though, hairpins were also used to hold poison or perfume. They changed into bobby pins when it was out of style for women to have loose hair in the Victorian era.

Barrettes are the modern version of bobby pins. They were first worn around the middle of the 19th century. Most of the time, they were made of metal or plastic and had decorations on them. Even though they don't have a way to actually clip into your hair, bobby pins are an important type of hair clip to have on hand because they can be used in so many different ways to style your hair.

One side of the bobby pin is flat and smooth, and the other side has grooves in it. These grooves are designed to help the bobby pin hold your hair in place and keep it from falling out. They have small plastic balls on the ends so that you can easily slide them into your hair without snagging your hair or poking yourself. It's important to only wear bobby pins that have these small balls in place.
